Blog 31 - Monday, January 30, 2017

This past weekend, president Donald Trump put together an executive order to VET (make a careful and critical examination of) Muslims, particularly from the following seven (7) countries: Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen.

Imagine being from one of those seven (7) countries and immediately told that you will NOT be able to return home for a minimum of 90 days, with a possibility of NEVER getting back in to your home?

How would this make you feel?
Is VETTING the right way to get rid of terrorism?
Is the president simply HATING one particular religion?

Explain.

  1. If I were a Muslim in that situation it would not make me feel good. I would be scared and disappointed of what America’s president would be forcing me to do. Vetting might be a way to eliminate terrorism but it would hurt many innocent Muslims and might even make terrorists angry and attack more. Donald Trump may just be against this religion or may just want to be protecting his country from danger. If the latter were true then why would he be letting the Muslim countries who have killed many Americans into America instead of the innocent ones?

  2. While none of us like terrorists and I think we would all like to find the solution to preventing terrorism, I think that Trump’s executive order is totally inappropriate. His actions suggest that he trusts nobody from these countries and that they are all terrorists, which is simply not true. If I was somebody from one of these countries, I would be really upset. The possibility of never being able to see my family again would enrage me. My family has always been my safe place to land, and without them, I would feel like I was lost in the woods, completely unable to get out….

In my opinion, vetting is not the right way to get rid of terrorism. If anything, I think that Trump has probably just made matters worse and prevented any possibility of there ever being a reconciliation between the muslim countries and the US. I also wouldn’t be surprised if more people in these countries who were peaceful don’t turn against the US and its allies.

It’s hard to know if Trump hates Muslims, or if he hates terrorism. My guess would be terrorism more than Muslims, because he didn’t choose to vet all Muslim countries, just those that seem to be responsible for the most terrorist acts.

While I know the US people elected Trump, I think he should be consulting more with the US public before taking such drastic and impulsive decisions.

  3. If I was muslim and had to go through not being able to go home and not seeing my family and my friends, I would be very disappointed and very depressed. Ninety days is a long time without the people we love and care about. Plus there’s that possibility of never allowed to come back home. I would never get to see my family. I would have to live in a country and be part of a culture that’s not totally mine anymore. I’d have to change my whole life as I know it. I would lose all my friends! That would make me very sad indeed.

Personally, I think that Trump is hating on the muslim religion. He was able to get lots of votes by scaring people with his terrorist stories. I believe that president Trump really hates people that are not like him. And I think that his main goal is to divide the country to better control the american people. I believe that veting is the wrong way to get rid of terrorism. It’s pathetic,
unprofessional, it will anger a lot of people and most likely create more problems in the future. My main question is why those seven countries and not Saudi Arabia or Egypt where there are more americans killed by terrorist acts? Could it be that it wouldn’t be in Mr Donald Trump’s best interests to ban the countries is still doing personal business with? WHAT A JOKE!!!

  5. Never being able to get back home would make me feel angry towards whom ever put me in this position. I would also feel lost in this humongous world. I believe that VETTING is terrible way to get rid of terrorism. I believe that because you are only causing people to get angry at you and your country and that just causes problems, which leads to terrorists. I believe that Donald Trump is just hating one religion. I believe that because he is not letting any muslims in, but he is letting other people form different religions in, and they have killed multiple Americans. Yet, no Muslims have killed any Americans.

If I were a Muslim and have to go through the thought of not being able to go home or even a possibility of never going back home which would mean never seeing my friends and family again, I would be so sad and angry. Maybe vetting is a way to get rid of terrorism but it’s not the appropriate way, especially when you’re a president. Whether Donald trump is against this particular religion or he just wants what’s best for his country, it isn't quite logical to let Muslims who have killed Americans into America and ban the innocent ones.

  7. I feel like he's just keeping the promise that he made during the elections. To keep out illegal foreigners, however the way in which he's doing it, is very wrong. He's treating everyone from those countries as criminals and he thinks that that's going to prevent terrorism. There are ways of checking peoples backgrounds before come into the country.

  8. I think that vetting those countries is not the right way to do it, just because someone is from there does not mean they are a terrorist or something of the sort. The right way to do it in my opinion, would be to check those with shady backgrounds and not simply everyone who comes from there. If I was somebody from those countries who was denied access into my home, I would be infuriated and angry I would try to start protesting, and try to fight for my rights, I wouldn't stand for that. However, no I do not think that the president is simply hating one region, I think he just might be trying to do what he thinks will help with the terrorist problems, even if it may be too radical.

  9. I think that Trump shouldn't be venting people form there countries. I would feel so worried and sad if my friends or family didn't come back to Montreal. I think that trump is just doing this because he is keeping his promise that he made in the elections.

  10. I don't think that it's fair that the president of the united states is doing this! He's simply hating a religion and forcing them into things that they shouldn't need to do! Just because they're a part of a religion doesn't mean that their all the same. In this case he is against Muslims and when he looks at them he sees isis and that's wrong because most of them are in a huge crisis and he doesn't care! I think that vetting is really wrong and he shouldn't even be thinking about it, but unfortunately he's already signed forms... I think that what he is doing is wrong!!

  11. If I was from one of these 7 countries and I lived in the United States I would feel very sad, angry and violated. A president can’t just make people leave their home country for no good reason. I don’t think that vetting is the right way to get rid of terrorism. The police are investing innocent people who had nothing to do with terrorism. I think the best way to get rid of terrorism is to investigate the people that are suspicious and to get police officers that are not racist. I think that Donald Trump is hating on one specific religion. Donald Trump is a racist and by him putting this new law in order it just shows even more that he is a racist. If Donald Trump keeps putting these laws in order and going through with them he is for sure not right to be a president.

  13. if i was in there shoes i would be terrified because i would be forced to be locked away from my family and friends and the person i would miss the most would be my mother and vetting is kinda the right way to make terrorist stop but is it the right thing to do? no because a country based off of freedom to keep what it was based off of and donald j trump is taking it away from us citizens. it isn't the right thing to do.

VETTING isn't the right way to get rid of terrorism because you could be ousting many innocent people for no reason. I don't know if the president is simply hating a religion because I don't know what Donald Trump thinks and I don't really follow politics.

  16. If I was one of those people who is from those places I would feel outraged that because of what my culture has done I am punished! I do NOT think that "vetting" is the right or a "good" way, I honestly don't know a good way to stop terrorism. I do not think Donald Trump is simply hating these places, I think he is just trying to stop terrorism in his own way, this may not be the right way but at least he is trying!

  17. I would make me not feel good. I think it would cause more harm than good cause probably 99% of the Muslims that are not going to be treated well are innocent and just want to go home. I think that it is complete injustice and that the president is just trying to target a hole religion that he hates over just a few people. I think that all people should be treated the same. I think that vetting is not the right way to go.

  18. I would not be happy. Most Muslims are good. There is just that small group of extremists. Not all Muslims are bad just because some are. Vetting is not not the solution. It's stupid. There are so many other ways to get into a country you idiot. They have other ways. They will find loop holes in you idiotic plan Trump. Yes Trump is hating on one religion and it is totally unreasonable.

  19. I would feel very betrayed by Donald Trump.Especially if the people that he wasn't allowing into the U.S. were good people. I don't think vetting is the solution. I feel really bad for the people that can't go home and have to wait 90 days. I think Donald Trump is hating on one religion and I don't think it's fair to the people who did nothing wrong. Trump should do something else instead of keeping them captive in their countries and not allowing them to get out. I believe that he's is doing this for no reason. What is he going to get out of this?

  20. I would be extremely scared. They came to America for freedom and refuge, but now they are recieving unnaceptance and nothing but. Vetoing doesn't help much because they could just lie, or the vetters could on purpose turn them down. It's simply unfair.

  21. If I was in this situation i would be scared. This is not a good way to get rid of terrorism if anything it just makes people more angry. I strongly believe that Trump has something against this religion because it is impossible for them to all be guilty. Some of these people are just trying to get home to their family and he's preventing them for doing so.

  22. This would be one of the worst things that could have happened because, just by the color of our skin or the race of our culture we could potentially never see our family again, its sad and scary to think that our world has come to that. This is honestly stupid because its just gonna cause anger and cretae more terrorism,
